Have a clear procedure of your morning routine written on a poster or on a PowerPoint slide. Hang it in the room or display it so that when your students enter the room, they know exactly what is expected of them. You can refer to it if a problem arises with a student who has a hard time getting ready to work for the day. The routine will soon be so ingrained in their minds, that they will no longer need to refer to it. Expect a much smoother morning! An example might include: 1) Go to your desk. 2) Put homework on your desk. 3) Get your pencil or pen ready. 4) Work on self-start quietly at desk.
